Triumph Post #3 - Addie

POST #3- Please discuss the Rehearsal Room and your preparation )if any) to rehearse. Some possible thoughts to reflect on (if you want some further guidance): How do you go from day job/school/life to the work of the rehearsal room? Do you have a personal warm-up or preparation to begin working? Do you have "group warm ups" and do you find them helpful or distracting? What challenges are you currently facing within the rehearsal process? Has there been any of those "AHA!" magical "I get it!" moments in the rehearsal room? For this production, do you feel the majority of your work happens in the rehearsal room or outside of it?

I'M STRUGGLING! On all of the above, in fact. In a perfect world, I have a personal warm up that I could devote 30 minutes-an hour to before. Since it is far from perfect,  if I'm lucky, I have an hour to eat, do homework and get all my errands of the day run before I rush off to rehearsal with little to no outside prep. That being said, I greatly appreciate and need/crave our group warm ups. They bring me into focus inside the room and help shed the day outside.

Challenges I currently am facing: I can't for the life of me, find the humor in Leontine. There are hit and miss moments depending on what I'm feeling before we rehearse a scene, but right now the times I am onstage are feeling more like a badly acted melodrama where the actress is taking herself much too seriously. (And this is NOTHING against Chelsea/Leonide/Phocion/Aspasie/any other alias she chooses, for I feel she is doing a magnificent job and giving me a lot to play with.) But I feel stuck. Occasionally, I get on an AHA moment, but they aren't sticking just yet. I think being off book will definitely aid in my exploration of Leontine, but I haven't found her yet.

Right now, most of my work is happening in the rehearsal room, and I don't want to say that is opposite of what my normal process is, but it is not something that I like to do. I am working to turn that around by next week. I'll keep you all posted on how that goes.
